This paper looks at the advancements that have been made and the challenges that still lie ahead for fully utilizing the cloud in linear media operations, It examines the “lift and shift” perspective that still pervades most media technology and how cloud utilization is still being held back by operations wedded to legacy workflows. We examine the most recent developments, especially those related to live production in the cloud.
This paper also examines two use cases that illustrate how the fully leveraging cloud capabilities can transform linear media operations. The first looks at how to redesign playout in the cloud for scale while reducing cloud costs to a fraction of the costs of lift and shift. The second use case examines how volumetric cameras and an esports production model could transform live sports production in the cloud.
